This one-of-a-kind Redwood heart was hand carved from a wonderfully rough and unusual piece of wood. What began as a weathered piece of Redwood gradually revealed beautiful warm color, flowing grain and natural dark areas that I chose to preserve as part of the finished carving.
It measures approximately 21 1/2" tall by 12" wide by 2" thick.
I especially like the long, graceful shape of this heart and the way the natural character of the Redwood remains visible throughout it. The dark natural wood along the upper right side contrasts beautifully with the reddish-brown polished surface, while knots, small natural inclusions and flowing grain patterns give the heart a character that could never be duplicated.
I haven't had much Redwood available for quite a while, so I particularly enjoyed carving this piece.
I have included a photograph of the original wood along with in-progress photographs so you can see how the carving developed. There are also close-up photographs, views from different angles and a short video to help show the grain, depth and sculptural shape.
The heart has a clear satin lacquer finish that protects the wood while allowing its natural color and grain to remain the focus.
A metal self-leveling hanger is attached to the back, so the carving is ready to hang on a wall.
Every one of my carvings is made individually by me and is truly one of a kind. I began carving wood full time in 1978, and after all these years it is still my favorite thing to do. I enjoy working with the natural shape and character of each piece of wood and allowing the finished carving to evolve as I work.
Each carving is signed “Wiz.”
This Redwood heart would make a meaningful piece of original wood wall art, a unique wedding or anniversary gift, or a special gift for someone who loves natural wood, handmade art and one-of-a-kind objects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Care instructions

All of my carvings have a lacquer finish. Dusting with a feather duster or blowing off with a compressor is all that is necessary on the carved trees, fish and carved faces. I use Orange oil on the smooth surfaces. This will perk them up. I would do it as often as you polish your furniture. Once a month would keep them looking great but is not necessary.

When will I get my purchased carving?

I will contact you as soon as I get your order. I will package it that day or the next. I take it to the Post Office the next morning. If I get an order on Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday it will be in Monday mornings mail.

How will my carving be shipped?

I use Priority United States postal service mail.

Do you ship outside of the US?

I do ship outside of the US. I need to know the carving that you are interested in and your complete shipping address. I will figure what it costs to ship to your address and make the changes to the listing so that you can make the purchase.
