This one-of-a-kind Madrone heart wall sculpture is hand carved from a wonderfully gnarly piece of wood, with a natural opening through the center, deep reddish-brown grain, and dramatic black weathered wood.
Madrone is not a wood I get to carve very often, which makes this heart an unusual piece in my collection. I was especially drawn to the original slab because of its rough, weathered center. Rather than remove that character, I shaped the heart around it and let the natural opening, cracks, dark wood, and irregular areas become part of the finished carving.
The contrast is what makes this piece stand out to me. The smoothly carved Madrone has rich reddish and mahogany-brown tones, while the natural interior has turned nearly black. The opening through the center gives the heart depth and lets the wall behind it become part of the sculpture.
I included photographs of the original slab and several stages of the carving so you can see how this heart developed from a very rough piece of wood into the finished piece. I enjoy leaving enough of the tree’s original character that you can still see where the carving came from.

This is the exact heart shown in the photographs and video. It is a one-of-a-kind carving; there will never be another piece with the same natural opening, color, grain, and weathered character.
I have been carving wood full time since 1978. Each heart is individually designed around the piece of wood rather than made from a fixed pattern. I carve, sand, finish, sign, and prepare each piece myself at my Tree Wizard Gallery on the southern Oregon coast.
This Madrone heart could make a meaningful anniversary gift, wedding gift, fifth-anniversary wood gift, housewarming gift, or simply a distinctive piece of natural wood art for someone who appreciates the beauty found in an imperfect tree.

SHIPPING IS INCLUDED IN ALL OF MY CARVINGS
All of my carvings have a lacquer finish. Dusting with a feather duster or blowing off with a compressor is all that is necessary on the carved trees, fish and carved faces. I use Orange oil on the smooth surfaces. This will perk them up. I would do it as often as you polish your furniture. Once a month would keep them looking great but is not necessary.
I will contact you as soon as I get your order. I will package it that day or the next. I take it to the Post Office the next morning. If I get an order on Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday it will be in Monday mornings mail.
I use Priority United States postal service mail.
I do ship outside of the US. I need to know the carving that you are interested in and your complete shipping address. I will figure what it costs to ship to your address and make the changes to the listing so that you can make the purchase.
