This is a piece of Manzanita burl. These burls are not so easy to find. A friend of mine broke down in the Sierras on the way to a job. While he was waiting for a tow he noticed he was in an area that had been burned a while back. He could see Manzanita burls all over the area around his truck. He brought me some and this is one of the first for me to carve. Manzanitas only burl in a few areas. Not sure why that is. The burl is in the roots of the Manzanita and has a lot of voids and rocks that it can just grow around. This one dulled several of my carving tools when I hit hidden rocks. Tricky wood to work. But I love the results!
This piece is very calming to be around for me. My designs are all unique and spontaneous. I love to flow with the Will of the Wood when I am doing abstract carvings. I don't do many abstracts but I really enjoy carving them. This is an awesome piece of wood. It is a completely different piece with each small turn. A very fun piece.

It stands up and would go on any shelf or table top. It does not hang on the wall.
It's very smooth and has a great feel to it. The Enamel finish really sets off the grain colors and all of the sculpted lines.

Care instructions
All of my carvings have a lacquer finish. Dusting with a feather duster or blowing off with a compressor is all that is necessary on the carved trees, fish and carved faces. I use Orange oil on the smooth surfaces. This will perk them up. I would do it as often as you polish your furniture. Once a month would keep them looking great but is not necessary.
When will I get my purchased carving?
I will contact you as soon as I get your order. I will package it that day or the next. I take it to the Post Office the next morning. If I get an order on Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday it will be in Monday mornings mail.
How will my carving be shipped?
I use Priority United States postal service mail.
Do you ship outside of the US?
I do ship outside of the US. I need to know the carving that you are interested in and your complete shipping address. I will figure what it costs to ship to your address and make the changes to the listing so that you can make the purchase.
