This wood carving of a Fir Tree dancing bear wall hanging would make a special wood sculpture gift. This is a pierced relief wood carving and is carved from a single piece of wood. I don't carve these tree carvings with dancing bears as often as I used to. My hands are only interested in doing them occasionally. I am retired now. I will be carving for as long as I can. I still love doing it more than anything!! This piece measures 20" tall x 10" wide x 1 1/2" thick. This carving has a lot of character!! Boo Bear just loves dancing his afternoons away amd sharing the joy of being alive with his Bird friends. They really knows how to have a great time. He wants to be extra good before the next time he boogies with his partner Betty Bear!
Each time you click the above picture you will go to another more detailed photograph of this piece. 5 pictures altogether.
I carved it out of a piece of Buckeye that has great coloring. The colors in this wood are so warm. It is a very rare wood. It grows in the foothills of the Sierra's in California. It also grows in the Eastern US but this Buckeye is a little bit more like a small bushy tree rather than a large trunked tree like in the East. It is a tricky tree to harvest because of the clay soil it grows in. When the soil is dry, it is harder than the wood. When the soil is wet, it is too slippery for the back hoe to get in and dig it out. The cost of the wood adds a lot to the price of the carving. It is a root burl so there aren't a lot of solid pieces as the burl is mixed in with the roots and grows right around rocks and dirt pockets. It can make it tricky to work sometimes if there is a rock inside when you go to mill it or start working it. It is very challenging but really worth the extra effort. I feel very blessed to have a few pieces of Buckeye to work with.
The technique I use is called Pierced Relief. It is carved out of one piece of wood and nothing is added. I have been carving since 1971 and a tree was the first carving I did. I have always been stimulated to carve a resemblance of a tree out of a tree. My technique has evolved over all of these years to what you see here. I keep seeing ways to make things more life like. And I love a piece to look like it is in the middle of a story that each observer can make up. Sometimes a different story each time we look at it and sometimes the same one.

I use mostly recycled packing. My carvings are all such different sizes that it makes it hard to purchase custom boxes and very expensive as well. It's as eco friendly as I can make it and keeps my prices as low as they can be.
I want you the buyer to be so happy with your purchase that you want to rave about how wonderful it all went on your feedback. If for any reason you are dissatisfied, let me know and we will work it out. If you're not happy, I'm not happy. E-mail me or call me at 541 761 1997 if there is any way I can help.
I've carved more than 13,000 carvings since 1971 when I started and have sold all of those pieces all over the world. Making people happy with my work is my soul purpose. With Love and Gratitude! <(B^)
All of my carvings have a lacquer finish. Dusting with a feather duster or blowing off with a compressor is all that is necessary on the carved trees, fish and carved faces. I use Orange oil on the smooth surfaces. This will perk them up. I would do it as often as you polish your furniture. Once a month would keep them looking great but is not necessary.
I will contact you as soon as I get your order. I will package it that day or the next. I take it to the Post Office the next morning. If I get an order on Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday it will be in Monday mornings mail.
I use Priority United States postal service mail.
I do ship outside of the US. I need to know the carving that you are interested in and your complete shipping address. I will figure what it costs to ship to your address and make the changes to the listing so that you can make the purchase.
